Ayushman Arogya Mandir

Respected CHOs, PHCOs, HIOs and ASHAs..

The National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) are a key initiative of the Government of India to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centric, and standardized healthcare services at public health facilities.

Achieving NQAS certification is not merely an assessment activity; it is a systematic process of institutionalizing quality in day-to-day service delivery.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Community Health Officers (CHOs) play a pivotal role in leading quality initiatives at Health and Wellness Centers by ensuring adherence to clinical protocols, documentation standards, and patient safety norms.
  • PHCOs are critical in coordinating, supervising, and monitoring quality improvement activities, including internal assessments, gap analysis, and corrective actions.
  • ASHAs contribute significantly by strengthening community linkage, patient awareness, and follow-up and by promoting utilization of quality services.

Each cadre has a defined and complementary role in achieving and sustaining NQAS standards.

Importance of NQAS Certification

NQAS certification:

  • Ensures standardized service delivery as per national guidelines
  • Improves patient safety and infection prevention practices
  • Enhances community confidence in public health facilities
  • Strengthens team accountability and performance monitoring
  • Brings recognition to facilities, staff, and districts at higher levels

Way Forward

To progress towards NQAS certification, focused attention is required on:

  • Strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Timely and accurate maintenance of records and reports
  • Effective infection prevention and biomedical waste management
  • Regular internal assessments and review meetings
  • Continuous capacity building and supportive supervision

Quality improvement should be viewed as a continuous process, not a one-time activity.

NQAS is not difficult when we work as a team:

  • Follow SOPs
  • Maintain records daily
  • Ensure cleanliness and infection control
  • Respect patients and each other
  • Review gaps and improve continuously

Small daily efforts lead to big achievements.

Quality healthcare is a collective responsibility.  With structured planning, teamwork, and sustained efforts, NQAS certification is achievable and maintainable.

Let us take a collective pledge today: 👉 Our facility will move towards NQAS

👉 Our services will meet national standards

👉 Our community will feel the difference

“Quality is not an extra work; it is the right way of working.”
